The Roots: While most modern hip hop acts have shied away from playing actual instruments, The Roots have made a hugely successful career out of it. Their unique brand of hip hop and soul with a full band (including horn section) has led to sold-out tour dates and four Grammys. In addition to their own acclaimed albums, The Roots have also participated in acclaimed collaborations with artists like John Legend, Erykah Badu, and Duffy. As The Roots continue to evolve and grow, nothing seems too out of the ordinary for this groundbreaking hip hop collective.

The Roots was formed in 1987 by vocalist Black Thought and drummer Questlove while they were friends in high school. The duo began performing around Philadelphia and New York City, gathering a line-up of musicians that would change frequently throughout the band's career; including beatboxer Rahzel. After gathering a following of both hip hop and alternative fans with strategic tour dates, The Roots roared onto the mainstream with the release of Things Fall Apart in 1999. The album quickly went gold and won The Roots their first Grammy that year, and was followed by a performance at Woodstock '99. The Roots' political and social commentary began to grow stronger and stronger beginning with Game Theory in 2006 and continued on their next few albums.

The Roots album, Wake Up!, combined the group's increasing social commentary with the smooth R&B sounds of John Legend; an undeniably winning combination. After a collaborative album with Betty Wright, The Roots released their 13th album, Undun. The record was a concept album, following a man named Redford Stephens who's seduced by a life of crime. After a collaboration with Elvis Costello, the band released ...And Then You Shoot Your Cousin, which satirically dealt with the subject at violence in America.

Miguel: Miguel Jontel Pimentel was born in the San Pedro neighborhood of Los Angeles, California. He is one of two sons born to a Mexican father and an African american mother. Miguel's parents divorced when he was eight years old. At a young age, Miguel listened to classic rock, hip hop, funk and rhythm and blues. At age 13, he began pursuing a career in music.

Miguel cites musicians Prince, David Bowie, Jimi Hendrix, Freddie Mercury, Phil Collins, Donny Hathaway, The Notorious B.I.G. and Kanye West, as well as the band Queen as his influences, in addition to expressing his admiration for Stevie Wonder, John Lennon and Diane Warren. Miguel revealed his desire to have worked with James Brown, whom he considers the "last innovator for me when it comes to soul". In addition to singing, Miguel also plays the guitar. He incorporates R&B, funk, hip hop, rock and electronic into his music. Miguel described his sound as "nostalgic in a sense that it's familiar... it's shocking, edgy, energizing". In an interview with Paper magazine, he regarded his music as "fly, funkadelic" and "intergalactic-hip-hop-meets-sexy-orgasmic crazy."

After making his contribution to Usher's Raymond v. Raymond in 2010, Miguel released his debut single titled "All I Want Is You", which features J. Cole and was produced by Salaam Remi. It is the lead single from his debut album of the same title.

Busta Rhymes: If being Christened by Chuck D of Public Enemy as "Busta Rhymes" wasn't an omen enough; Bus-a-Bus aka Busta Rhymes became a rap superstar as a teenager when he formed the Leaders of the New School in 1989. After two albums, Busta Rhymes split and went solo. Since his debut, The Coming in 1996, Busta Rhymes has been one of Rap's most consistent hit-makers and lyricists. Currently on tour, Busta Rhyme's concert schedule (2011) has the rapper performing at select venues throughout 2011. Use Eventful as your source for Busta Rhymes tour dates and venue information.

The New York native took rap by storm with his debut solo single "Whoo Hah!! Got You All in Check" which propelled sales of his album to Platinum status. Busta returned in 1997 with When Disaster Strikes, which featured the wild and crazy video single "Put Your Hands Where My Eyes Can See". During an era filled with rap violence, Busta Rhymes emerged with more creative rhymes and an eclectic style. He closed out the decade with E.L.E. which featured the hit duet with Janet Jackson, "What's It Gonna Be", which is one of his highest charting singles to-date.

Busta Rhymes continued to record through the new millennium. Busta hit a mile stone in 2006 with the release of The Big Bang, which earned him his first #1 album. Busta Rhymes is currently in the studio working on his ninth studio album, E.L.E. 2, which is scheduled for release in 2011. In the meantime, you can hear Busta on the hit Chris Brown track "Look At Me Now". Busta Rhymes tour dates are currently scheduled throughout the US this 2011.
