As home to Hollywood and the entertainment industry, the Golden State has cultivated one of the most impressive filmographies of roles in motion pictures and television shows. The California Art Club pays tribute to the state’s impressive resume with the exhibition "Lights, Camera, California: Starring Roles for Scenic Sites," on view through May 14.

The exhibition showcases nearly 30 paintings of famous and not-so-famous sites that have made cameo appearances in film and television. Among the best-known location sites featured in the exhibition are iconic landmarks, such as the Hollywood Sign, the Golden Gate Bridge and the Griffith Park Observatory, which includes among its numerous credits the recently released "La La Land."

“Presenting the exhibition 'Lights, Camera, California' makes perfect sense for the California Art Club, as the year-round sunshine and natural beauty that attracted the organization’s early artists to paint throughout the state also have enticed filmmakers with ideal settings and scenic backdrops for their projects,” notes Kate Plumley, exhibition coordinator for the Club.

The participating artists in the exhibition are juried members of the California Art Club and include Peter Adams, Nanette Biers, Larry Cannon, Donald Crocker, Karl Dempwolf, Esther Engelman, Andrea Gaye, Carolyn Hesse-Low, Debra Holladay, Chuck Kovacic, Frank Lennartz, Simon Lok, Elaine Mathews, Lisa Mozzini-McDill, Michael Obermeyer, Richard Probert, April Raber, Rodolfo Rivademar, Junn Roca, Gayle Garner Roski, Frank Serrano, W. Jason Situ and Lillian Winkler.

All of the paintings are available for acquisition. After the opening of the exhibition at the Old Mill, the artwork may be viewed online at californiaartclub.org.
