Deadmau5

Deadmau5 (pronounced "dead mouse") is far and away one of the most popular and talented DJs and producers working in the business today. He's mastered a number of electronic styles, including dubstep, Neo-trance, and different varieties of house music. The outspoken DJ has not only released a slew of solo albums, but also contributed to amazing collaborations with the genre's biggest names, including collaborations with vocalists on tour dates. He has been one of the top sellers on Beatport for the past few years, and fans have worked themselves into a frenzy deadmau5's epic, world renown concert dates. Deadmau5's concert dates feature stunning visual and auditory experiences that can only be seen to be believed. Fan's who haven't witnessed a deadmau5 show are in luck; he has a number of ongoing, international tour dates in 2011.

Deadmau5 (born Joel Zimmerman) became interested in electronic music in the mid-90's when he began making chip music (a form of music made using old computer chips). His moniker is derived from an incident that began when he was replacing his computer's video card, discovering a dead mouse in the tower. Zimmerman released his first EP, Project 56, in 2005, which featured fifty-six short demo tracks. Most of the tracks were short little bits of beats and none lasted more than three minutes; drastically different from deadmau5's current work. His second album, Get Scraped, was released in 2006 and showcased Zimmerman's talent in diverse styles. Deadmau5 followed up the success of the album later in the year with the release of Vexillology.

Deadmau5 released his first mixed album, Random Album Title, in 2008. The album featured the track "I Remember", the hit collaboration with Kaskade that reached #1 on Billboard's Hot Dance Airplay; it began a trend of deadmau5 collaborations reaching #1 on the chart. His 2009 album, For Lack of a Better Name, featured some of his most popular and lucrative tracks, including "Hi Friend!", "Strobe", and "Ghosts N Stuff". While the 2010 album, 4x4=12, featured popular hit songs, album sales suffered due to deadmau5 playing the unfinished tracks on tour dates, which were subsequently released onto the internet by fans.

That's why deadmau5 is keeping the development of his upcoming album under wraps. While deadmau5 has lost many an unfinished track while playing it live, it is these tour dates that have contributed so heavily to his success. Deadmau5 sells out tour dates at arenas and stadiums around the world, with thousands of people grooving and dancing along to incredible light shows. Without anything to go on, these same fans are anxiously awaiting the release of the album, which is rumored to drop before the end of 2011. Meanwhile, deadmau5 is lighting up European concert dates on his current tour. As of April 21, deadmau5 is in New Zealand before heading to Australia for tour dates until the end of April. On May 7, the DJ will be headed to Malaysia for tour dates before heading to South Korea and Taiwan; then off to Europe until the end of 2011 tour dates on July 10.
Calvin Harris

Calvin Harris invented disco. No, Calvin Harris reinvented disco. He was Marks & Spencers' champion shelf-stacker two years running. He made his debut album fuelled by chicken breast fillets. He knows the whereabouts of Alex Kapranos' secret studio-hideaway-laboratory-home cuz it's quite near his own place in Dumfries.

Calvin Harris's debut album, with the subtle title "I Created Disco", cost 0p to record. He fashions future-disko using an ancient Amiga computer and is, right now, (literally) knocking together a stonking live set using MDF and 204 samples. "My live band's gonna be even more rocking than the tunes. I'll be singing, but only because no one else in Dumfries can sing. I've got an extremely limited range. But I will be wearing a top hat made from the skin of a tiger."

Calvin Harris is one of those 'myspace sensations' you keep reading about. He was wildly popular amongst The Kids and on The Club Scene, a cult producer-slash-singer-slash-bedroom-knob-twiddler who can make the banging-est of pop-dance tunes out of bugger-all kit. The last time he spent any money on gear was three years ago, when he bought a voice processor for £200. "I'm not the kind of dude who buys Sound On Sound. I know if something sounds nice. If it does, I'll keep it. If not, I'll try and make it nice. You don't need to splash out on technology."

Calvin Harris has big plans for summer 2007: a debut album, of course, and then a single called 'Colours', which contains a dash of Visage's proto-electronica classic 'Fade To Grey' and is about girls' clothes. "Chicks who don't wear colours annoy me because there are many wonderful colours in world - and those women who are not utilising them make me very upset. Although black and white does look good. But if you're gonna go out I wanna see someone in a big canary-yellow hoodie. And big baggy pink jeans."

Calvin Harris's first release will be a limited edition 10-inch featuring the turbo-funky 'Acceptable In The 80s' and the robo-pop jitter of 'This Is The Industry'. What are they about? "The song titles say it all. My tunes aren't supposed to invoke deep thought within people; they're just to get you dancing. But musically it is for the brain - it's not music for stupid people. I take great pride in my productions. It's not knocked out in a few seconds." And if you can't track down a copy of 'Acceptable In The 80s' on 10-inch, don't worry. It'll be coming out properly as a single in March too.

Calvin Harris will make you jump around like a silly-billy - the slamming likes of 'The Girls' and 'Merrymaking At My Place' (the latter soon to be found on a second 10-inch) will meet you on the dancefloor now. But if you let him, he might also make you cry. "I've made a lot of miserable tunes - I've got an album worth of depressing chords. I've not got any lyrics, like."

Calvin Harris has his own label, FlyEye, and a manifesto, innit. "Disco disappeared, didn't it? Everyone got sick of it. Now I'm reviving it, with space goggles, or something."

Calvin Harris only made some of this stuff up.
Rihanna

In less than six years, she has sold over 15 million albums and over 45 million singles. Her videos have generated over a billion views on Youtube. She has three Grammy Awards and was Billboard’s ‘Digital Songs Artist of the 2000s’. She is, Rihanna. Now embarking on her fourth tour, Rihanna has firmly cemented her place in popular music history. Check out the latest Rihanna tour dates posted right here at Eventful.

Born and raised in Barbados, the young superstar had her eyes set firmly on stardom from a very early age. Long before those Rihanna tour dates had the star selling out massive venues worldwide, she proved her determination to make it big by leaving her native Barbados, and moving to the U.S. At the age of just 16, Rihanna auditioned for none other than Jay-Z, and subsequently went on to sign with his label. In 2007, the partnership led to the release of their worldwide smash, ‘Umbrella.’ The single reigned at the top of the U.K charts for an astonishing 10 weeks and remains a fan-favorite at all Rihanna tour dates.

Showcasing her distinctive blend of R&B and Caribbean music, as well as high energy performances and unique stage outfits, Rihanna tour dates are some of the most in-demand events on the popular music circuit today. With fans in all four corners of the globe, the schedule of Rihanna tour dates has the star performing everywhere from the U.S and Canada right across to Ireland, the U.K, Europe, Asia and Australia.

When the young star isn’t busy traveling the globe for those much-anticipated Rihanna tour dates, she is heavily involved in fundraising efforts for her own ‘Believe Foundation’ which seeks to help children with terminal illnesses. Additionally, in 2008, Rihanna collaborated with other major stars such as Beyoncé, Mariah Carey, Fergie and Carrie Underwood on a charity single--the theme song for the 'Stand Up to Cancer' anti-cancer campaign. Indeed, Rihanna's philanthropic efforts have been recognized by many within the arts and entertainment worlds. Rihanna is also a cultural ambassador for her home country of Barbados.

With a new set of Rihanna tour dates kicking off later this year, you’ll want to stay informed on when she’s coming to a venue near you. Make Eventful YOUR source for all the latest news and up-to-date information on Rihanna tour dates in 2011 and beyond.
Sebastian Ingrosso

As one-third of the Swedish House Mafia, Sebastian Ingrosso has had the year of his life. The Deep Forest nights at Pacha were the toast of the White Isle this summer and his ecstatic 'Kidsos' track, that reworked MGMT's iconic 'Kids' to devastating effect, soundtracked innumerable messy nights on the tiles.

"People were singing that MGMT hook all summer," he reflects, while admitting he's still getting over the emotions of the summer months.

And if 2009 was the year that the Swedish House Mafia finally made their mark, making everyone sit up and notice, the Deep Forest parties at Pacha will live long in the memory.

"We knew we had to make them amazing," the boisterous Ingrosso says. "It had to be a real party, because if people were spending 60 euros to get in we had to give them a great time. That's why we went all out on the guests likes Deep Dish and Dizzee Rascal and even the pyrotechnics. It couldn't just be a Beatport Top 20 show."

Now he's on a roll, Ingrosso doesn't intend to take his foot off the pedal either. Next year he hopes to release an album and to that end he's making plans in the studio right now.

"I hope to get the album out next summer," he says, before adding a hasty caveat, aware that his busy schedule could sidetrack events. "But you never know. Let's see what happens."
